We have some new herb additions joining our Sorrel plants at the Olde Orchard Hill Farm. A few weeks ago we planted 400 sage trees, each tree no taller than one foot. They may not look like much now, but with the proper nutrition and sunlight we expect them to fill up half of our vast herb garden in the northwest portion of our farm.

Sage itself is a very aromatic herb that is part of the mint family alongside rosemary, oregano, thyme, and lavender. It is mainly known for its culinary uses in savory dishes such as roast chicken, lamb, and turkey stuffing. Sage is also known in history for its medicinial properties. In the past, this herb was used to treat stomach disorders, inflammation, and menopausal symptoms. Today, it is used as a natural supplement to improve memory and cognition.

As we add more plants to our farm you can envision the table of food we plan to make available in the future. Imagine a palate of healthy, wholesome dishes that take time, care, and love to produce. This palate would incorporate herbs and fruits rich in history, but otherwise have been buried amongst the fast, processed, and packaged items that are incredibly available today. Our goal is to preserve nature as closely as possible, whilst unveiling its hidden gems.
